Sense in stitching, lost in the multiplication of images one after the other. The artist, Diane Meyer, says it better: ”The embroidery deteriorates sections of the original photograph forming a new pixelated layer of the original scene. The project refers to the failures of photography in preserving experience and personal history as well as the means by which photographs become nostalgic objects that obscure objective understandings of the past.”

“I remember my grandmother’s embroidered tea towels with classic imagery of Dutch girls or Scottie dogs. I was so amazed that my grandmother could draw with a needle and thread. Faces of Floss: The first photo was taken in June, 2012, after a few minor experiments with cross stitching. The subject’s problem with DMC floss progressed quickly from this point, resulting in the second photo you see, from a mere seven months later. Embroidery: NOT EVEN ONCE.
